About
About us
Chester City Construction brings together two trades that used to be two separate phone calls. Tom Brickland's building firm handled the building side; the joinery came from Shane Radcliffe. Now they are one team, working across Chester and Cheshire.
That matters in practice more than it sounds. A wall coming out, a staircase changing shape, or a run of fitted units going in no longer means coordinating two contractors around each other. It is one team, one plan, one point of contact.
Tom started with a plumbing and heating apprenticeship at sixteen and has spent around thirty years in the trade. He worked for Avonside Heating, then on council refurbishment contracts in London after 2008, before coming back to Chester and building up general building work alongside the plumbing. His own building firm followed about six years ago.
Shane trained as a joiner from fifteen through an apprenticeship in Australia, subcontracting in Melbourne before moving to the UK. He has been a site manager on high-end residential builds, run his own commercial carpentry firm with a team of fifteen, and worked as a contracts manager for a north-west commercial contractor.
The two met on a site in Flint about six years ago. Tom was doing Shane's plumbing and Shane was doing Tom's joinery, and combining the two firms was the obvious next step.
We carry £6M public liability insurance with AXA. Tom holds NVQ Level 3 and Advanced Craft qualifications and is Gas Safe registered; Shane is a qualified joiner. We have four full-time staff and a regular team of around fifteen subcontractors for electrics, plastering and bricklaying.
We do not offer a written guarantee scheme. If something we built needs putting right, we come back and put it right.
